New Years Resolution 2017 + Tips For Making Yours

11:00:00

Happy New Year! I hope your first week back to work/school hasn't been too hectic! I had my first day back to work on Wednesday and I'm already feeling the January Blues. I know a lot of people are against the idea of New Years Resolutions, but personally I think it's a good time to reflect on the year and see how you can improve on yourself in the next year. I've included some tips to make your resolutions below.

1) Get 8 hours of sleep
I'm a grandma at heart and I'll happily be in bed by 10. I'm usually quite good at this, but I find that now that I'm in my final year of uni, I'm staying up later to get work done and getting up early for work/uni/gym. But a good nights rest is important for pretty much every aspect of your life. I also find when I sleep well my skin is less likely to break out and I actually perform better at the gym/work.

2) Plan breakfasts, lunches and snacks for the week
Of course this is me saying I want to eat healthy. But that's far too much of a broad resolution. My parents are both amazing cooks and they do make a lot of good food. So I don't want to step on their toes when they make dinner for me in the evenings. But I do find that the food isn't always the most healthiest option. Finding the right balance with a good diet is essential, so by me planning my day meals, I'm able to control the type of food going in my body and keep a healthy balanced diet. The hardest thing for me is controlling the amount of junk food I eat during the day. I'm always on the go, and it's so easy for me to pop into Tesco or fast food restaurants to grab a quick and unhealthy meal. Not only does this get costly, but it also makes me feel like crap. If anyone has any good meal planning tips, I'd love to hear them!

3) Go to a new restaurant each month
I'm not a big eater but I do like to try new restaurants. I'm lucky that my best friends and my boyfriend all like to go to new places too. So this year my boyfriend and I have decided that we'll go to a new restaurant each month. I went to so many new and exciting restaurants last year and I really enjoyed writing about them in my 'restaurant review' posts (which I now have a board on Pinterest on). We already have a little bucket list of the places we want to visit so hopefully we stick to this!

4) Plan deadlines and stick to them
This goes for both uni and my blog. Ever heard of that phrase 'Fail to prepare and prepare to fail'? My maths teacher always used that phrase and it's stuck with me since. My friends like to call me an organised mess and it's true. I like to write t0-do lists and plan things out in my diary but I still manage to get myself into a muddle. So this year I'm trying to be more realistic with my plans and stick to them. I'll let you know how well that goes..

5) Attend gym at least 4 times a week
Last year I really stepped up on my fitness routine. Over the summer I was really dedicated and spent 4/5 days a week at the gym. Okay, it's not made a noticeable difference but I feel stronger and I can see the improvement in myself. There's a lot I want to change about myself and going to the gym regularly will help me do that. At the moment, I'm juggling a part time job, final year of uni and my blog/social life too. So fitting in gym around my already busy schedule will be tough, but hopefully it'll be worth it!

6) Utilise travel time by reading more
I calculated the other day that on average, I spend 12 hours riding the tube each week. 12 hours! I don't do anything on the tube, I don't listen to music or read the metro, I just sit there and think of how much I want to be in a home snuggled in a duvet burrito. But I want to start utilising this time more and get into reading. Whether it's a magazine, a book or a blog post, I think it'll be a good time to use my time efficiently.

7) Improve blog photography and post regularly on Instagram
I'm not sure if you saw on Twitter the blogging trend of comparing blog pictures from the beginning of the year to the end of the year? I realised that my pictures actually haven't changed that much. And okay, I only properly got back into my blog halfway through the year, but I still want to experiment more and get more creative with my photography. I also want to post more on Instagram, which if you already follow me, you'll know that I've already started doing this.

8) Finish off my beauty products before I buy new ones..
This one is specifically for my skincare. I have enough skincare and bath products to open up my own shop! I always get lured into offers and new releases, but I should really give the products I have some love. I've recently reorganised my products to remind myself of what I have and encourage me to use them more. At least this way I'll have more reviews for you in the new year!

TIPS
I've tried to make my resolutions more specific this year so that I'm more likely to achieve them! If you focus on one or two little changes then you're more likely to reach your ultimate goal. Everything is easier when you take baby steps.

I have quite a few that I want to stick to this year, but they're all in different aspects of my life which means I'm more likely to keep up. There's 101 things I'd like to change but I'm a creature of habit and I fall back into bad habits out of laziness! Make changes in various things of your life i.e. work/school, social, personal, etc. Many of your goals are likely to link together without you realising it!

Make resolutions with your friends and family and encourage each other to keep to them. My third resolution is something I'm doing with my boyfriend, it's a little resolution and it's hardly going to make a big difference to either of our lives, but we both like to eat out and so we're more likely to achieve it. Fitness resolutions are always easier if you have a buddy to achieve them with, it makes it feel less like a chore.

Don't beat yourself up if you don't quite achieve what you had hoped. It's not the end of the world, think about why you didn't achieve it and start again. Your resolutions might have been too optimistic, so step it down a notch and work from there. Have some faith and you'll get there in the end!

I'd love to know what your resolutions are! Don't forget you can tweet me @neelamjayna and follow me on Instagram too to see what I'm up to!

Love Always,Neelam xx
