Review | Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

Over the summer I finally got my hands on the Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette. Believe it or not but it's the first eyeshadow palette that I've purchased from Urban Decay. I've always opted for the more affordable dupes that are out there by brands like Makeup Revolution. But I picked it up on sale and thought I'd see what all the fuss is about.
Packaging
I am really impressed with the packaging of this palette. I like that it feels sturdy and it has a nice magnetic close to it - there's something just so appealing about that! The smoky design on it makes it look expensive and well thought out and overall makes the product look very appealing! Inside you get a nice-sized mirror that fills the whole inside of the lid and then you have your 12 shades each labelled with the name of the shadow. I don't why but when shadows have a name, it just makes it so much easier as a blogger to describe (cheers Urban Decay!). The palette also includes a double sided brush with a fluffy side and a more dense, 'pencil-brush' style side.
Shadows
When I first swatched these shadows I had mixed reviews. For the price, I assumed that all the shadows would be heavily pigmented. Of course, I wasn't disappointed with the shimmery shades. But the matte shades, to me, weren't as pigmented. It's quite typical for matte shades to carry less pigment, but for the price, I wasn't expecting this. After working with the shadows and actually trying it in looks, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the shadows performed much better and the pay off was really good! The only negative I have to say about this palette is that there is quite a lot fallout from the shadows.

Shade Range
When I first saw this palette come out, I honestly wasn't overly excited about the shade range. Yes I would love to have them all, there is some really good colours in there. But I would typically gear towards this palette when I'm doing an evening glam look and initially it wasn't something I would use during the day. Therefore I didn't think it was a palette I so desperately needed. But actually, now that I have it, I've realised that there are a few shades that I can wear easily during the day. I like to apply the shade password all over the lid for a subtle 'daytime glam' look and during the summer I would often apply a small amount of high or radar on my lids for a little glow!
Brush
First of all, I'm not a huge fan of double sided brushes because of the way I stack them - but I tend to keep mine in the palette anyway. This brush is good for blending and good for smoking out eyeshadow, but it's not so great in packing the eyeshadows on initially. I would much prefer to use a flatter, denser brush like the Blank Canvas Cosmetics E24 brush.
If you have the money at hand then I would say that this is a palette worth getting. However, if you're on a budget or would prefer more variety in shades then maybe go for something that is equally good and affordable.
