Hungarian Langos Recipe
07:30:00
While I was on holiday in Budapest, we had the most delicious traditional street food: Langos. I was craving these when we got home so I decided to look up the recipe and give it a go. Thankfully, it was surprisingly easy to make these and tasted pretty good! I used the recipe from this website.
You only need a few ingredients to make this:
300g All purpose flour
7g dried (instant) yeast
250ml water
1/2 tsp salt
Toppings: Grated cheese, garlic butter, or cream cheese
The recipe was very easy to follow. You pretty much mix the dry ingredients into the wet and create a dough-like texture. Add a little extra flour if it's too sticky and simply allow it to prove for about an hour. The recipe says it will double in size but mine just increased slightly!
Rolling the dough was pretty easy but it's handy to have a bowl of flour next to you to stop it from sticking. Then I just used a standard biscuit cutter to create the shapes. In Budapest they were much bigger in size, almost like a plate size. But it's nicer to have smaller ones for people to snack on and you can have it as a side to a main dish.
Then all that's left to do is fry! They blow up slightly and they take about 3-5 minutes to cook depending on how hot your oil is. You want them to turn slightly golden and it should just tear like normal bread.
I decided to have mine with a home made garlic butter. I simply added crushed garlic and dried herbs into some butter and created a paste. It's really simple but of course you can get a shop bought one!
They turned out really nice and actually I only made half the amount which still produced about 10 langos! The grated cheese on top was the perfect finish too.
Love Always,
